PIM – Product Information Management explained.

Central management of all product data.

A PIM (Product Information Management) is the single source in which all product information is maintained: attributes, copy, images, variants, prices, category mappings.

Maintain once, up to date everywhere

What this means for you

PIM in practice.

As soon as you sell on more than one channel, it becomes indispensable: without a PIM you maintain the same detail separately in Amazon, in your shop and on every marketplace – with guaranteed inconsistencies. With a PIM you change it once and all channels follow. In Sellercore the PIM is fully integrated.

When a PIM becomes necessary.

As long as you sell on a single channel, Seller Central is enough. As soon as a second channel comes along – your own shop, another marketplace – the trouble starts: every product detail suddenly exists in several places, and with each change the versions drift apart.

A PIM solves this by being the single authoritative source. It holds attributes, descriptions, images, variants, dimensions, commodity codes and channel-specific details. All channels are fed from there.

The second big benefit is quality assurance: a good PIM shows which mandatory fields are still missing for which channel – before a listing gets rejected or goes live incomplete.

What a PIM has to do.

01
One source for all channels

Maintain changes once, push them everywhere.

02
Channel-specific fields

Amazon, Shopify and Kaufland require different attributes.

03
Media management

Images and videos centrally, in the formats each channel needs.

04
Multilingual support

Manage translations in a structured way per market.

05
Completeness check

Spot missing mandatory fields before the channel rejects them.

06
Versioning

Trace who changed what and when.

Common mistakes.

!

Using Excel as a PIM. Works up to around fifty products – after that it becomes a source of errors.

!

Introducing it too late. The migration gets more involved with every additional product and channel.

!

Maintaining only the copy. Dimensions, commodity codes and dangerous-goods details belong under central management too.
