For years, so-called super URLs were seen as an insider trick for sending external traffic to Amazon in a way that boosts ranking: links that simulate a search query including a keyword, so that the purchase looks like an organic hit. The problem: Amazon has long known this trick – and anyone still using it today risks more than they gain.
Super URLs contain parameters that fake a real search. Amazon now filters out these artificial signals reliably – at best the effect simply fizzles out. At worst, Amazon treats the deliberate manipulation of the ranking as a breach of the terms of use, which can lead to an account suspension. The risk is out of all proportion to a benefit that no longer exists.
A filter URL is a perfectly normal, legitimate Amazon link: a search results or category page, narrowed down via genuine filters such as brand, price range or Prime. The customer lands on a page where your product is prominently visible, clicks on it themselves and buys – completely natural behaviour that Amazon treats as an organic signal.
How to build a filter URL: search for your main keyword on Amazon, set the brand filter on the left to your brand and copy the URL. This link shows the customer "their" search – with your products as the result.
Even cleaner: send external traffic to your Brand Store. There are no competing products and no advertising from other sellers there – and with Amazon Attribution
Amazon rates products by how likely they are to sell. Sales are the strongest signal – regardless of where the customer came from. A purchase that came from an Instagram ad counts just as much as one from Amazon search.
The difference is in the detail: if the customer lands directly on the product page and buys, that's a good signal. If they land on a search results page, click on your product there and buy, it's additionally a relevance signal for exactly that search term. That's exactly what super URLs were about – just in a fraudulent way.
Worked example: with £10,000 in external sales per month, the Brand Referral Bonus brings back around £1,000. That funds a considerable part of the advertising budget – but only if tracking is done correctly.
Using untracked links. Without Attribution you never know which campaign works – and you also lose the Brand Referral Bonus.
Sending cold traffic straight to Amazon. People who don't know the brand rarely buy straight away. Better: first build attention and trust, then lead them to the purchase.
Linking to search results pages with heavy third-party advertising. You pay for the click and a competitor makes the sale. In such cases the Brand Store is the better landing page.
